Botox®
Looking to ease jaw tension or smooth away fine lines and wrinkles? Botox can help. We offer both therapeutic and cosmetic injections right here in our office.
A multitasking injectable
Dentists offer Botox®? You bet! As experts in facial anatomy who give injections of local anesthetic day in and day out, our dentists are well qualified to provide Botox for cosmetic and therapeutic purposes.
The injectable not only helps with anti-aging but can also tackle teeth grinding and clenching (bruxism), facial pain, chronic headaches, TMJ issues, and more. Curious if Botox is right for you? Book a consultation or ask us about it at your next appointment!
Botox is a versatile solution that can be used for everything from temporarily smoothing facial wrinkles to reducing TMJ pain.
The tried-and-true injectable is approved by Health Canada for a number of uses. Botox has been used in Canada for over 30 years.
Getting Botox takes about 10 minutes. Most patients see results within a few days with full results evident in two weeks.
Our Botox treatments
Facial Pain, Bruxism, and TMD Treatment
At Kits Family Dental, we offer Botox for TMJ and facial pain, as well as bruxism. It’s an effective but conservative alternative to surgery. The dentist injects the masseter muscle, or jaw muscle, which causes it to relax and stops it from involuntary clenching.
Smile Enhancements
Want to enhance your smile? Botox can help with that too! One of the most popular uses is to improve the appearance of a “gummy smile.” By injecting the upper lip muscles, they relax and keep more of your gum tissue hidden.
Adjusting to Dentures or Braces
If you’re struggling with pain and muscle spasms as you adjust to new dentures or orthodontic treatment, Botox might be an option. Injections relax your facial muscles potentially making the transition smoother and more comfortable.
Reducing Facial Lines and Wrinkles
By blocking chemical signals from nerves that cause facial muscles to contract, Botox injections can reduce the appearance of dynamic lines and wrinkles, including frown lines, bunny lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet.
What is Botox?
Botox is what’s called a neuromodulator. This means it modifies nerve signals, which temporarily prevents the targeted muscles from contracting. Treatment involves using a fine needle to inject tiny amounts of highly purified protein from the bacterium, Clostridium botulinum.
By thwarting muscle contractions, the overlying skin looks smooth and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles is reduced. When injected into certain muscles, Botox can also help with spasms and pain.
Do Botox injections hurt?
Our dentists use very small, fine needles and the process typically takes less than 10 minutes, so discomfort is minimal. You may feel slight pressure or a pinch similar to a bug bite. We can apply a topical numbing cream before the injections but most patients don’t need it.
What can Botox be used for?
Botox is a non-surgical solution for fine lines, wrinkles, and other cosmetic concerns. Some of the most popular injection sites are between the eyebrows, the forehead, by the nose (bunny lines), and the corners of the eyes (crow’s feet). It can also subtly lift the eyebrows, soften the jawline, and improve the appearance of a “gummy” smile.
Botox can be used for therapeutic purposes as well. It can address:
- TMJ pain and dysfunction
- Facial pain
- Chronic migraines
- Teeth grinding and clenching (bruxism)
When will I see results for Botox and how long do the results last?
You might see results within a few days with full results evident about two weeks after the injections. The results are temporary and last about four months.
When you stop getting injections, your muscles will return to normal. If you want to keep your results going, our dentists will recommend the right injection schedule for your needs and goals.
Is Botox safe?
