What’s the point of fixing baby teeth? Cavities in Baby Teeth

cavities in baby teeth, cavities in children's teeth, why fix baby teethEven if baby teeth have cavities, what’s the point of fixing them? Won’t they fall out anyway? This question on cavities in baby teeth is what Kits Family Dental is going to answer in this week’s blog post!

The problem with not fixing cavities in baby teeth is that tooth decay is progressive.  This means cavities get bigger when untreated, and if left untreated, your child may experience pain and develop an infection such as an abscess. Cavities in baby teeth progress very quickly, and children with tooth decay may have problems eating, sleeping, and focusing due to this pain. As a result, your child may not grow and develop normally.  A child with visible tooth decay may become self-conscious and not want to smile or laugh for fear of revealing the cavity to their peers.

There are also further consequences for the next generation of teeth if the baby tooth is missing.  If the tooth is lost, the teeth next to it can move into the space, thereby blocking the adult tooth from coming in – it’s much simpler to just get the cavity fixed so that such complications don’t happen!

Make sure your child is brushing and flossing correctly, and if they have a cavity, even if it’s in a baby tooth, come get it fixed before it becomes an even bigger problem!
