Some of the questions revolve around things like how much do dentures cost, what different types of dentures are available, questions about full dentures and partial dentures, and also how many visits will it take.

We hope to answer many of your questions. If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact us at Kits Family Dental. We supply partial and full dentures in Kitsilano, Vancouver BC.

Who Are Good Candidates for Dentures:

Patients who have even one tooth missing can have a partial denture but generally speaking dentures are best for patients missing multiple teeth on both sides of the mouth which cannot be replaced by a simple bridge.  With partial dentures you can always repair and add teeth to the prosthesis as needed.

What Type of Dentures are Available at Kits Family Dental:

Kits Family Dental offers acrylic partial dentures (with or without clasps), acrylic partial dentures with a metal framework, or full dentures.  The choice depends on the design of the prosthesis and the needs of the patient. The patient has ultimate final decision on the type of denture they would like fabricated.

How Many Visits it Will Take Until the Dentures Are Ready:

If no teeth need to be removed to prepare for the denture, a simple all acrylic denture can be made in 2 visits.  If the case is more complicated, has esthetic considerations, or teeth need to be extracted, it may take 3-4 visits or more.

Information About the Process for a Partial Denture:

Generally speaking, the sequence of appointments is as follows for a partial denture:

  1. Initial molds are taken and a custom tray is fabricated
  2. Final, more accurate mold is taken. We select shade and discuss specific design of prosthesis if patient has concerns.
  3. Try in of prosthesis during which patient can see what the final product will look like.  If patient approves then we have partial denture finished.
  4. Delivery of final prosthesis.

For Full Dentures:

  1. Initial molds are taken and a custom tray is fabricated
  2. Final, more accurate mold is taken.
  3. Measure of jaw relationship with special lab fabricated rims. We select shade and discuss specific design of prosthesis if patient has concerns.
  4. Try in of prosthesis during which patient can see what the final product will look like.  If patient approves then we have partial denture finished.
  5. Delivery of final prosthesis.

How Long Does it Usually Take From Start to Finish:

The simplest all acrylic partial denture can take 1 week.  Partial dentures with metal framework need 4 weeks. Full dentures need 5 weeks.

Other Information:

Sometimes patients need to crown weaker teeth that are support teeth to partial dentures.  Good home care and regular cleanings and check ups are important to partial denture wearers to ensure the rest of their teeth and especially their support teeth are kept healthy.  Even complete denture wearers should be checked to ensure their tissues are healthy.  Implant supported dentures are an option for patients who are finding it difficult to tolerate traditional dentures.
